Panela is unrefined whole cane sugar, common to Latin America. Panela combines the flavour of brown sugar and molasses, but the cooking process gives it a slightly smokey, caramel and earthy taste. Panela is full of trace minerals and vitamins. It's a winner! Made a bit like tea, and with a slice of white cheese and an arepa, this is a filling dessert, and one to warm your heart.
